Hi, I am Jonathan LeMaster-Smith, a PhD candidate finishing my dissertation focusing on a Christian pedagogical response to rural deindustrialization in the foothills of Western North Carolina. My rural research interests include environmental education, reclaiming rural history for a new future, practical theology and ministry in rural settings, and general rural advocacy. Overall my research interests include United Methodist and Wesleyan studies, continental/postmodern philosophy, living a practiced religious life. My vocation is rural theologian and educator. I am also a commissioned missionary to creation in the United Methodist Church.
My hobbies are cooking, hiking, perusing thrift shops.
I am married to Rev. Shannon LeMaster-Smith, a Deacon in the United Methodist Church and an advocate for community and church collaboration. We’ve been married since 2008. We have two dogs, and live in Glen Alpine, North Carolina.
